UAB Medical West has proudly served the communities of West Jefferson County since 1964. As an acute care hospital with 12 health centers located throughout its market, including Bessemer, Hueytown, Vance, Tannehill, and Hoover, UAB Medical West offers a wide range of diagnostic, surgical, medical, and emergency services. These services include intensive care, women’s health, telemetry, geriatric psychiatry, inpatient rehabilitation, sleep medicine, cardiac rehabilitation, and advanced wound care. UAB Medical West has over 1,300 employees and more than 300 physicians on its medical staff.
In 2015, UAB Medical West became home to the state’s first Freestanding Emergency Department (FED) off Interstate 459 at Exit 10 in Hoover. The FED and the hospital’s main campus emergency department see more than 75,000 visits annually. New Hospital Opened August 2024
Our brand new state-of-the-art hospital opened in August 2024. Located at 5000 Medical West Way, Bessemer, AL 35022, this building includes a 412,000 square foot, 9-story hospital with 200 beds and a 127,000 square foot, 7-story Medical Office Building (MOB). This facility features a new surgical and endoscopy suite, including robotic surgery and 12 operating rooms, state-of-the-art imaging technology and more intensive care beds.
This facility is designed around nature to promote an environment of wellness and healing rather than illness. Nestled in the trees and overlooking a beautiful pond with walking trails, this building has floor-to-ceiling windows in patient rooms giving patients an exceptionally calming and relaxing stay. With inviting and welcoming common spaces including rocking chairs, fireplaces, custom artwork by local Alabama artists, the goal of this space was for guests to not feel like they were in a traditional hospital setting. Floor colors and schemes were designed around plants and flowers native to the state. It is a true space of wellness and healing not only for patients, but for staff members, visitors and our entire community.
