In times of such uncertainty, one thing you can be certain of is that Medical West is here for you. We are committed to providing safe, quality healthcare for our community. As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have taken the necessary precautions to ensure our facilities - including our main campus, both emergency room locations and our satellite health center locations - are a safe environment for our patients and staff members. These precautions include:
- 6 foot distancing in all areas
- Restricted visitation
- Patients & staff wearing masks and checking temperatures before entering the facility
- Hand sanitizers located throughout the facility

Donated Face Masks
Many have asked about donating homemade masks to Medical West - we will gladly accept these to distribute to our non-COVID patients. We do ask that you please use new, clean fabric. You can follow the pattern listed on www.bhamfacemasks.com. Masks may be dropped off at our Main Hospital in Bessemer or at our Freestanding Emergency Department in Hoover. See below for specific drop-off times and locations.

For the safety of our patients, team members, and community, only certain entrances will be used at this time. Please refer to the map below for specific locations. Patients may enter through the Professional Buildng Lobby and ER patients may enter through the Emergency Room. Again, visitors are not permitted at this time.
During the Coronavirus Public Health Emergency, Medical West Health Centers and Clinics remain open for business. We are taking all precautions to limit exposure to staff and the community. Therefore, we have several options available to address your healthcare needs. Our physicians are available for appointments via telemedicine (a phone call) for established patients who need to talk to the doctor. An in-office appointment is also available. To schedule a telemedicine (phone call) or an in-office visit, please call your physician's office or send a message through the patient portal.
During this time, our Cafeteria will be offering take-out meals only. The dining area is closed until further notice. The Cafeteria's hours are 6:00 am - 10:00 pm, 11:00 pm - 2:00 pm, and 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm.
Medical Center Pharmacy
As a part of the UAB Medical West community, the entire staff at Medical Center Pharmacy shares the concerns of UAB MW during the COVID-19 virus pandemic. As we all struggle with the uncertainties around the risks of exposure and transmission of this virus, the Medical Center Pharmacy staff stands ready to assist in any way we can. As we continue our commitment to provide the best pharmacy service possible, there are a couple of situations unique to the current crisis that may offer additional opportunities to help:
- Based on age and underlying medical conditions, there are several groups of people who are at greater risk for contracting the COVID-19 virus – maybe you have elderly parents or a loved one with an identified underlying medical condition, like diabetes or COPD. Medical Center Pharmacy is able to fill prescriptions for those individuals and have them delivered right to their homes through the mail. This can save an unnecessary trip out of the home and help to decrease their risk of virus exposure.
- Some select employees of the hospital have been asked to work from home during this crisis. Medical Center Pharmacy can offer that same mail delivery service for any prescriptions for those employees, again working to avoid an unnecessary trip.
Starting now and continuing through the month of April, Medical Center Pharmacy would like to offer mail order service at no charge to anyone who may need it. Simply call the pharmacy and speak to one of the technicians or pharmacists.
Due to the strain the virus has placed on physicians, our pharmacists are now allowed to approve refills for up to 30 days of certain maintenance medications. If you think you need that type of help, give us a call and we’ll help you get the medications you need.
